Getting to Krabi

A city whose motto is "Lively Town, Lovely People "remains a destination for those from all walks of life. It is made for divers and climbers, as well as those more comfortable with their feet planted solidly on the ground and who just want to bask in the sun and soak up some of God's greatest beauty. Krabi is a place that many are familiar with-even if you've never been to Asia, you have most likely seen its brilliant colors echoed in print and on sceen. Numerous movies have been shot here. The Beach, The Man With the Golden Gun and Cutthroat Island are the most well-known, but many others were filmed on location in Krabi.

The province of Krabi covers 4,707 square kilometers and spans more than 200 islands. The capital of Krabi Town sits on the banks of the Krabi River, just before it opens out into the Andaman Sea. The concavity of the Krabi coastline creates numerous small- sized bays, beaches and limestone karsts. The most famous ones are Phra Nang Bay, Rai Lay Beach, Poda Island and the Phi Phi islands. Krabi also has a 75 million year old gastropod fossil, one of only three known to exist.
Considered one of the greatest rock climbing locations In Asia, Krabi welcomes climbers from all over the world as long as they are brave enough  to dangle from the famous limestone cliffs. The crags, which rise to great heights, cover a large range of grades. There are more than 500 routes in 40 spots. The best are said to be tucked way in the Rai Leh headland.
For water lovers, Krabi's main beach, Ao Nang, can be reached by the road north of town. (Locals insist that the best coves and beaches are accessible only by sea). Laem Phra Naeng, a long forested peninsula, juts a out into the Andaman Sea from Ao Nang, and at its southern tip are three fine beaches: Ao Phra Nang and West and East Rai Leh. Concealed among the trees separating the beaches is the Dusit Rayavadee Resort.
Krabi offers a realm of possibility for anyone who dares to make the long voyage there. It is a sunrise and a sunset all wrapped into one. Whatever you want to do, you're sure to find it. Paddle a canoe along the coastline to visit the nearby islands.
Want a closer view? Snorkel or dive into the blue waters and see fish and other underwater life that are impossible to find anywhere else. On Krabi, nature is what it's all about. And as the famous song "Hotel California" says, "You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave."
